Event description
Ferrovial Agroman has arranged two one-hour presentations by Mary Sherwood about her work in support of dementia carers. This will form part of their Mental Health Awareness Week. The presentations will take place at their Heathrow office. Other Heathrow construction colleagues sharing the site will also be invited to attend. If you work for a Heathrow construction company contact Ferrovial Agroman for details
Why
Mary worked full time whilst caring for her mother who had Vascular Dementia. The impact of dementia care poses a significant risk to the mental health and wellbeing of dementia carers, but working dementia carers are invisible in the workplace. Colleagues cannot empathise, fellow carers cannot share experiences and support. The impact on organisations is far higher than we appreciate, affecting performance, productivity, recruitment and loss of key skills.
Experience
Mary’s successful two-year Dementia Carer Friendly Met Office pilot study ran from 2014-2016. She created 4 Dementia Carers to help other organisations provide support for their working Dementia Carers. Mary’s workshops for the British Library in July were a lifeline to those who attended.
“We now have an official list of the support group for dementia carers, so we are up and running – all thanks to you! “
