Have you been impacted by dementia?

Support and practical information

Share your experiences and issues

Who is this for?

This informal meeting supports and informs anyone impacted by dementia, whether in the past or currently. The person who has dementia does not have to live with or near you and they could be in a care home. They may be a relative, a friend or neighbour.

A Past experience?

Former carers are experts by their experience and can help others going through it now. Former dementia carers can be traumatised by their experiences. These sessions can help you to understand better what you were going through and this in itself can be very beneficial to your health and wellbeing.

Comment from former carer:

“If I had only known 15 years ago  what I am learning now, my mental health would not have suffered so much.”

The benefits

Join us for tea and cake. Share your experiences with others who have been or are going through similar. Learn more about dementia and pick up practical tips to help you cope. Topic suggestions always welcomed.

Comment from current carer:

“I go along to the Dementia Carer Network and I hear what others are going through. I think that if they can deal with that, then I should be able to deal with it too. I now realise that it is a normal situation to be in.”

Please contact us if you need a lift to/from the meeting.

Future events

If for any reason you are not able to attend during the day, please get in touch if an evening session would work better for you. We are considering putting on a couple of evening sessions if there is sufficient demand for it.

In the second half of 2020 there will be some dementia carer workshops funded by the Mayor of Newton Abbot. He has chosen us as one of two charities he is supporting, so the funds will be released in May. Please let us know if you would like to be put on the waiting list to attend. More information will be available nearer the time.

Speakers

If you have expertise which you think will benefit dementia carers, we are interested to hear from you. Please contact us to discuss further.
